Decided to re-work the current rotator system to make it a bit more robust mechanically and trying to solve the ~20 degrees azimuth display bias in case of full rotation. Found a good hint on YT2FSG’s page using Hall effect sensors for the display feeds. (Goran published lot of other really cool solutions too.) The core of the azimuth display is inspired by K3NG Arduino rotator solution. Unfortunately K3NG’s code become so big that the available Arduino Nano’s could not execute on stable way due to the too small remaining memory. Decided to try the simple analog read function to see whether it can produce the needed feature.
Purchased the below two types. Both of them have very smooth and easy rotation. Most importantly there’s no end-position with a single turn, so no need for transposal.
Created the circuit on a test pad and surprisingly the symptom can be seen below on the video clips appeared. There was a significant dead-angle from ~315 degrees meaning there was no output voltage change even tho the shaft was still turning.
